NOTE: If you’d like a Developer’s Kit shipped to a location outside of the U.S. or Canada, please contact us via phone or email.

The Magellan DK58420 Developer Kit for Magellan MC58000 and MC55000 Family Motion Control ICs are integrated board and software packages used to develop motion applications with Magellan MC58000 and MC55000 family chipset ICs. They provide multi-axis (up to 4) axis motion control for Brushless DC, DC Brush, and step motors. The DK58420 supports all Magellan MC58000 and MC55000 family IC features including profile generation, PID position loop, pulse & direction generation, quadrature encoder input, and much more. Motor command output formats designed to interface to external amplifiers include SPI Atlas (connecting to the Atlas DK [Pam this should be a link to the Atlas DK entry in this section), PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), and +/- 10V analog. All developer kits come with Pro-Motion, PMD's convenient Windows-based motor setup and optimization software, a complete C-Motion SDK, manuals, schematics, and software examples.

This developer kit supports the MC58110, MC58120, MC58220, MC58320, MC58420, MC55110, MC55120, MC5220, MC55320, and MC55420 Magellan chipset ICs.

What it includes:

  • This ready-to-go Developer Kit serves as an electrical and software design tool for building Magellan IC-based systems.
    • Supports all members of the Magellan IC family
    • Direct motion peripheral interfaces including quadrature encoder input, limit switch and home sensor input, Hall effect sensor input, and more
    • Motor command outputs for external amplifier drive stages including support for Atlas Digital Amplifiers, pulse and direction, PWM (pulse width modulation), +/- 10V analog output, and more
    • Supports Brushless DC, step motor, and DC Brush motor types, up to four motor axes per Developer’s Kit card
    • Screw terminals for motor, power
  • Development software CD, user’s guide, and Magellan documentation
    • Software
      • Pro-Motion
      • Magellan SDK CD
    • Manuals
      • Magellan Motion Processor Developer Kit
      • Magellan Motion Control IC User Guide
      • Magellan Motion Control IC Programmers Command Reference
      • Magellan Motion Processor Electrical Spec (MC58000 or MC55000)
      • Pro-Motion User Manual
  • Complete cable and prototyping connector set
    • USB to RS232 converter
    • Standard RS232 serial cable

What you need to supply:

  • Personal computer
    • Pentium or better, optionally one available PCI slot, 200 MB of available disk space, 256 MB of available RAM, and a USB port. The PC operating system required is Windows 7. This Developer Kit can also run standalone without a PCI slot through a serial or CAN bus.
  • Up to four motors, each either Brushless DC, step motor, or DC Brush type (based on amplifier type)
  • DC power supply (recommend 5 Volt and 0.5 Amp for standalone operation)
  • Motor amplifiers – either Atlas, pulse and direction, PWM, or +/- 10V analog-input amplifiers.
    • Cables as required to connect the Developer’s Kit card to your encoder and motor axis feedback signals. Recommended motor sizes (when connected to Atlas Developer’s Kits).
      • Brushless DC – 750 W
      • DC Brush – 575 W

  • Step – 540 W One or two Phoenix Breakout Boxes for feedback signals ( One box needed for each of the two axes. Part number FLKM 50 (Digi-Key part number 2281089-ND). Cables as required to connect the Developer Kit card to your motor amplifiers, and motors to the Phoenix Breakout Box. If Atlas amplifiers are used, the Magellan Developer Kit supports direct connection to Atlas Developer Kit boards via a DB9 connector and cable.
